The Wessex V series Violin is a handmade modern interpretation of the English school of violin making. The instruments are made to the highest standards using Balkan maple and Bavarian spruce and are finished with a traditional chestnut-brown oil based varnish that recreates the look of English makers Kennedy and Hill.

Featuring quality ebony or rosewood fittings in French or English pattern. Despiau ‘two tree’ bridge fitted as standard. Varnish typically of a golden-amber colour. A Workshop made instrument with hand applied oil varnish. The V Series is made in the workshops of the Wessex Violin Co, in the West of England.

This instrument is intended to offer young musicians going to university or conservatoire or professional players looking for a second instruments, the opportunity to own a handmade modern interpretation of the English school of violin making.

The instrument is made on a generic Stradivari pattern. Each instrument is individually labelled and is accompanied by a hand written Certificate of Authenticity which bears photographs of the instrument.

Wessex V series Violin:

  • The Body: The back is made in two pieces of irregular figured or lightly figured Balkan maple, the ribs and scroll are in similar wood; the table in two pieces of Bavarian spruce of narrow or medium-narrow grain.
  • The Varnish: Hand applied oil varnish of a rich reddish chestnut brown colour or an amber brown colour over a gold ground and often with some slight shading.
  • The Fittings: Quality Ebony or Rosewood fittings in a French or English pattern. Despiau B Grade bridge fitted as standard.
  • Typical Measurements: Length of Back: 356mm Upper Bouts: 167mm Middle Bout: 117mm Lower Bout: 207mm
